Peels, microneedling, radiofrequency, fractional laser: they're different technologies, but almost all of them work on the same biological principle — causing a controlled, measurable injury so the tissue itself repairs it by producing new collagen. This sheet explains that process step by step.
1. Las tres fases de la cicatrizaciónThe three phases of healing
| FasePhase | Qué ocurreWhat happens | Duración aproximadaApproximate duration |
|---|---|---|
| InflamatoriaInflammatory | Vasoconstricción inicial y, después, vasodilatación; llegada de plaquetas y neutrófilos; liberación de factores de crecimiento (PDGF, TGF-β).Initial vasoconstriction followed by vasodilation; arrival of platelets and neutrophils; release of growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β). | Primeras 24-72 horasFirst 24-72 hours |
Fibroblasts migrate to the area and synthesize type III collagen (immature and disorganized); new vessels form; surface re-epithelialization. | Del día 3 a ~3 semanasDay 3 to ~3 weeks |
Type III collagen is progressively replaced by type I collagen, denser and better organized; the skin gradually regains strength. | Semanas a meses — la remodelación fina puede seguir hasta 12 meses despuésWeeks to months — fine remodeling can continue for up to 12 months after |
"Neocollagenesis" isn't a technology or an ingredient: it's the technical name for the proliferative and remodeling phases you just read about. Any treatment that activates it — microneedles, controlled heat, certain acids — works by causing a mild, measurable injury that the body interprets as damage to repair.
Something important follows from this: new collagen takes weeks or months to mature and reorganize. That's why treatments that genuinely induce neocollagenesis don't give a visible result the next day — they improve progressively over the months following the session.
Marketing Cómo distinguir un efecto real de neocolagénesis de un «efecto flash»How to tell a real neocollagenesis effect from an "instant flash effect"
Many biorevitalizing treatments advertise a "flash effect": skin looks tighter and more luminous right after the session. That immediate effect is usually due to hydration and mild tissue edema, not new collagen — new collagen, given the biology above, simply can't exist yet at that point. A real flash effect isn't necessarily deceptive or bad, but it's a different mechanism from neocollagenesis, and the two shouldn't be confused: if a treatment only promises a flash effect, it isn't promising the same thing as one that promises collagen remodeling over the medium term.
3. Qué puede salir mal: cicatrización anómalaWhat can go wrong: abnormal healing
The same process that produces the benefit can go wrong. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the most frequent complication, especially in higher skin phototypes, and is usually prevented with strict sun protection before and after treatment. Much less frequently, hypertrophic or keloid scars can appear, especially in areas with individual predisposition or when the injury was more intense than the protocol recommended.

Fichas 02, 03 and 04 provide the anatomical and biological base — skin layers, SMAS and subdermal fat, healing — you'll need to critically read any sheet from Block 2 onward, where specific devices and treatments come into play.
Healing has three phases (inflammatory, proliferative, remodeling), and neocollagenesis is, literally, the technical name for the last two.
New collagen takes weeks or months to mature: any promise of an immediate, lasting result from "collagen stimulation" deserves suspicion.
An immediate flash effect after a treatment is usually hydration and edema, not new collagen — they're different mechanisms and shouldn't be sold as the same thing.
